An interesting thing happened just the other day when I was looking around to games section to see what was sitting on the shelves. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2012 was sitting there. Since I enjoyed the first one I thought I would grab this one and get back on the track to fitness.
There are a few differences and from I can tell, they’re all good! The most interesting is the addition to some floor exercises that make this a more complete workout. More classes were added as were some warm-ups to help cool down a little or to loosen up before tackling a workout.
The first day I got it I was checking it out to see what all was in the “game” when I heard the little chime that meant my console was shutting down. What?… I look down and see my dog has wandered over and touched the button with her nose! So I turn it back on and start doing some stuff like running through New York and missed the challenge. Oh well, I see what the exercises have to offer and see you can focus on different groups now. I try the arms and find it interesting. I then go and see what the classes are all about and check one of those out. I’m still miffed I missed the challenge on the run and go back to that and do it again. This time I get the challenge and shortly afterwards hear that chime again as my dog decided to check it out again. I mean… really? 9 months at the house and she’s never messed with the console ever and now she’s curious about it. I think I may have yelled a little bit. Now I’m mad and not thinking straight so I turn the console back on and wait a little while to catch my breath. I’m determined to complete this run one way or another. Someone should have been there to tell me that I should go for it again the next day because after I made it through that run, I felt horrible. I had to go lay down for a few minutes just so the nausea would go away. After that I stuck to my goal and the dog hasn’t messed with the button anymore. At least, for the week I’ve been playing.
There is still a lot that I haven’t done yet, but since some of those achievements have a burn 100,000+ calories, I should be doing this for some time. Who knows, by then it should be a habit. :)
Instead of keeping things on track at work, I have started my first day of a 5 day weekend. That’s right, Out of my 90 hours of use it or lose it time, 16 hours are being used. . . “But, wait a minute,” I hear you ask, “Wouldn’t three days equal 24 hours?” Yes, you are correct. Monday is not being taken on annual leave – instead one of those pesky furlough days are being used. So what, pray tell, did I do today and subsequently have planned for this extended weekend?
Today found me doing my best to take it easy and even though the dogs prevent me from sleeping in I did very little except for zone out a bit watching mindless television. Mostly Sports Center just to see if anything interesting was going on. Very little football news going on other than the stuff they’ve been rehashing for the last couple of days, but hey, at least you don’t have to think much about it. After a couple of hours of this I did plug in the ol’ Xbox and decided to see what I could do with a couple of games.
Mercury Hg has turned out to be a fun little game that I can easily lose some time on. Taking a virtual drop of mercury on a trip though some puzzles that include color changes, splitting apart and subsequently putting back together does use a little thinking power at times. After completing the first group of elements (gotta love the periodic chart being the selection process of which puzzle to work out) I have two more groups opened up and even got a challenge unlocked (which took me a couple tries to complete). Bonus levels are also interesting since you have to collect the mercury as you go along, but only three of those have been unlocked so far. But not to worry, I work at the game a little every day.
The Maw has been a pleasant distraction as well. I think I’m almost done with this game however. Two more levels to go (would have been one but I got caught in a glitch on a level that left me stuck with the camera looking off in some weird corner of the world. I’ll have another go at it tomorrow more than likely.
Jericho has been sitting in the drive for a few weeks now and I gave the disc a spin to get me through the crusades and into Rome. Most of the achievements left in this game is to get through levels on hard difficulty and some with the added difficulty of not being incapacitated. I really like the ghost bullet, but I think in Rome I need to use a different character because those shield guys just don’t give you the shots.
Meanwhile, the rest of the weekend is hopefully a lot like today. Well, I might just go and see if there’s anything interesting in the stores as far as games are concerned. . .
I can sure use a little time off from work. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean I don’t like my job, it’s just my energy levels are at a low point. Blame it on September. I reached 44 years old this month and seem to have been running around just to keep up with everything. Add to that, we are two people short at work and for two weeks another person is off which leaves me holding down the fort by myself.
Two of the last three weekends have been booked solid with things that HAVE to be done, and this weekend will see at least one day working. I shouldn’t complain because let’s face it, no one wants to hear someone whining about how life is so unfair! So when I can, I have been playing my 360 (I know! such a shocker!) and working on games that I have given up on like Clive Barker’s Jericho. Strange game that had me scratching my head on several occasions…
Anyway, I’m looking forward to getting past September and maybe an opportunity to take a few days off from work (I do have 90 hours I HAVE to burn or else I lose them) and maybe. . . just maybe get myself in a better frame of mind.
Don’t mind me, I’m just gonna lay here for a little bit. I’d get up, but I just don’t have the energy at the moment. I guess the reason for this is just bad luck or bad timing or both.
Two days after the loss of our dog, the cat decided to call it quits as well. So our pets are down to two dachsaunds and a tabby cat.
There is another thing going on, but I don’t have the energy to deal with that yet. Which is the reason I decided to lay here a little longer.
Yesterday found me doing the one thing I’ve been trying to avoid. At 1:30 in the afternoon I had to take Fluffy to the vet and stop his suffering. Like in the previous post – the results were in that his kidneys were in failure and he wasn’t eating. Even knowing that this was the right thing to do, it didn’t make it any easier.
So, like a lot of people who are dealing with this sort of stress, I decided to throw some money at some arcade games/games for windows/dlc. In an effort to help take my mind off things I finally decided to get Costume Quest to try it out. I also got Where’s Waldo? and DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 (both of them) and the DLC for Costume Quest.
True, these games aren’t going to make it all better… but for a few minutes I can temporarily forget (push to the background anyway) the awful Thursday.
For now things are pretty hectic and not in a good way. Any animal lovers out there can understand the heartbreak of having to make that decision and right now it’s weighing heavy. The extra visit to the vet for tests in order to see what’s going on has come back and things are looking bad for our 15 year old pomeranian/pekinese mix.
You would think that on these bleak days, it should be the only thing on one’s plate. However, the phrase “when it rains, it pours” comes right into play as I drove my wife to the ER last night for a 5 hour ordeal, getting back home at 3 a.m. Dealing with an attempt to keep the wife comfortable and a doctor visit coming up, the aformentioned decision has to take a back seat for the next day or two.
With hopes that the condition with the wife isn’t too serious and that it’s a simple infection that can be treated with a little TLC (and antibiotics), we have had good day for our dog who for the first time in a week had more of an appetite. It makes it easier to put off that dreaded moment – but not the deep feelings of imminent loss that constrict the very soul.
The loss of sleep is definately having an effect, but I will keep on going on doing what needs to be done until I can finally say things are back to normal and can lay down, catch up on my rest and get myself back to center.
These last couple of days have been perhaps a little less than ideal, but I’m getting back on track.
Finished up my Christmas shopping on Sunday and when Monday came rolling around I wasn’t feeling all that great. So I called in to work and just lounged around. I put the “Your Fitness” game up and by Tuesday I was feeling a bit more improved. Heck, I even went to work.
Today I pulled out the “Your Fitness” game and just eased into it for minimal effort (to keep me from relapsing into whatever it was I had). Not sure what I had but I’m glad it moved on quickly enough so I could be okay for Christmas! Can’t let my nephew down since he’ll spend a night over to play a little Halo: ODST and Reach.
Still taking it easy for the next few days so I don’t fall ill again, but I’m now able to do what needs to be done without being miserable.
Here it is, December. I’ve been puttering around with a couple of my games and accomplishing a little bit here and there, but I think I’m ready to start getting a little more done on other games as well.
As far as Your Shape: Fitness Evolved goes, I have my routine down pretty good – leaving Saturday as my ‘day off’. I’ve also noticed that I’m burning more calories in the time I’ve set aside. Today was a 200 calorie burn whereas last week I was doing about 140. I’m up to a total of 1300 calories burned and actually feeling a bit better (less tired).
The time I’ve had to get into Borderlands is almost non-existent. I’m on the verge of 40th level, getting enough brains to finish a mission, and discovering a way to get the doctor in trouble.
The new Marvel tables for Pinball FX2 should be available sometime after midnight and I’m really looking forward to that! There are also add-ons for Your Shape and such, but my points are running out on me. Perhaps I should ask for more come Christmas.
The thing is, I want to start on something else. I’m eager to explore New Vegas or a plethora of other (digital) exotic locations. The only thing now is to make a decision on where I’ll go next.
This last week has seen me focusing on two games for the most part. Your Shape: Fitness Evolved and Borderlands. There’s been a little Rock Band 2, Pinball FX2 and Game Room thrown in for extra measure, but not near as much as those first two games.
In Your Shape, I’ve been doing pretty good at doing this every day and it’s for about 1 hour of clock time that I’m in the game. I’m slowly getting more routines in since I’ve kind of come up with a game plan, Personal Training 3 routines, Fitness 2 routines and a couple of the Gym Games on one day and then Fitness 3 routines, Personal Training 2 routines and a couple of Gym Games on alternating days. This gets me about 140 calories burned, but it keeps creeping up so maybe in a couple of weeks I’ll get 150.
Borderlands has found me killing zombies on Dr. Ned’s Island. I’ve just made it to level 39 (Soldier). For the first time I’ve downloaded the game to the drive and it has made a bit of a difference I think as far as loading (not to mention less disk spin). I’m sure I’ll be playing this over the weekend with my brother where my Hunter is ready to take on some of the New Haven quests.
I’ve just played a couple of songs on the Rock Band 2 because I’ve been a bit worn out with the fitness game. Same goes for Game Room and Pinball. I’ve just played a little bit with those as well.
I’m hoping that this weekend I’ll be able to play a bit more!
If you have been reading my blog, you’ll know that I got my Kinect and 360 console to replace my broken one. You’ll also know that I got the Your Shape: Fitness Evolved to try out. If you haven’t been reading, you still know because I just told ya.
I started messing around with it on Friday just to see what it looks like and played a couple of the gym games, looked at the Fitness part of it and did set up the personal training section of it. Not all in one day mind you, just a bit here and a bit there.
My wife laughed at me trying to do the Loop the Hoop game and even recorded it while unsuccessfully trying not to laugh at me… thanks for that. Today I started my routine while no one else was around to laugh at me. I figure that I could put in some personal training time one day and then the next day do something else like some of the gym games and the fitness part for cardio… or even go for a different experience with the personal training since there are several things to do… I think I’ll need to get some 5 pound weights though like suggested to get the full benefit.
I do have to say with just kinda checking things out (especially the personal training part) my legs got a bit of a burn that I’m still feeling, but once I started today I lost that feeling until afterwards where I can once again feel it every time I get up out of my chair.
We’ll see how things progress from here!
