A Little Bit of This and a Little Bit of That

March 30, 2006 at 10:17 pm (Games)

Another one of those busy nights where I couldn’t get a whole lot of playing time in, but I still managed to play a little bit of Zuma.  Unfortunately I didn’t do much damage to it, so I’ll have to play more to get farther along.

A little bit of Oblivion made it to my attention and I managed to close yet another gate, but it’s definately getting tougher battling the daedra.  I’m also starting to run out of daggers  :p

I ended it with a level of Bejewelled 2 – but once again, didn’t accomplish much and I’m still a long way from getting that power gem achievement.

Since that sums up the gaming aspect of the night, I’ll share a couple of the character classes I came up with for Oblivion.  I didn’t include Birthsigns because those can be anything… but I got the basics down for you.

     COMBAT
Soldier:  Strength and Endurance:  Blunt, Blade, Hand-To-Hand, Block, Armorer, Heavy Armor, Light Armor

Conqueror:  Strength and Intelligence:  Blade, Alchemy, Destruction, Alteration, Sneak, Heavy Armor, Illusion

Gladiator:  Endurance and Speed:  Block, Heavy Armor, Athletics, Light Armor, Blunt, Blade, Hand to Hand

     STEALTH
Hunter:  Agility and Endurance:  Sneak, Marksman, Block, Armorer, Blade, Light ARmor, Illusion

Infiltrator:  Speed and Intelligence:  Acrobatics, Light Armor, Alchemy, Security, Sneak, Marksman

Grifter:  Personality and Luck:  Illusion, Mercantile, Speechcraft, Blade, Athletics, Alteration, Block

     MAGIC
Illuminati:  Intelligence and Agility:  Mysticism, Illusion, Alteration, Mercantile, Speechcraft, Athletics, Acrobatics

Summoner:  Intelligence and Endurance:  Conjuration, Block, Blade, Destruction, Light Armor, Illusion, Speechcraft

Enchanter:  Personality and Speed:  Illusion, Mercantile, Speechcraft, Athletics, Acrobatics, Mysticism, Alteration

Well, that’s what I’ve got so far – also on my "to make" list are:  Brawler, Bouncer, Evangelist, Politician, Escape Artist, Illusionist, Archeologist, Mercenary, Witch, Warlock, Trickster.  However, I keep thinking of others to use all the time.   :p  Will I ever use all these?  Probably not, but it’s fun to make ’em.

Unexpected Windfall

March 30, 2006 at 4:29 pm (General)

It’s good to see that my luck is still running and keeping an eye out for me.  It’s kinda weird how it works though.  If I want something bad enough, or something expensive jumps out unexpectedly – SOMEHOW things all work out.  I have been called lucky, but if I TRY to be lucky at something – it just doesn’t work.  Probably the best example would have to involve Halloween of 90 give or take a year.  I was wanting a computer SO bad and there was no way I could afford 3,000 dollars back then.  In fact, I was just keeping the bills paid.  My friend and I went running around town all night to keep away from trick-or-treaters (not that I get any anyway).  We first thought that Dracula would have hit theaters that weekend, but were disappointed.  Went to the video rental place and couldn’t find anything worth watching.  We must have hit several places with no success at finding what we were looking for.  Instead we ended up going to check the sports bar at a casino to see how our football team odds were.  Place was PACKED.  We ended up having to sit where the entertainment was going on and checked on our teams from the sports card.  Elvira – Mistress of the Dark came walking by saying "Keno".  I believe we both reached for the keno tickets and started filling out the card.  We were both broke and shouldn’t have played, but we just wanted a closer look at her.  All night long we played (it helped that we kept winning our dollar back) probably cost us around 5 bucks each.  However, we just weren’t doing that well.  So we called it a night and figured it was time to go – but I had just won my dollar back and told her to just play the same card again.  I mean, what the heck….  Imagine hitting 7 of 7 numbers… 8,000 dollars.  I split 50/50 with my friend and we got an escort back to the car by security (yes, we DID tip Elvira with a few 20s).  Needless to say, I was able to get my first computer where I came up with my online name of silverduck… later to be morphed into cluskevird when silverduck was unavailable.  :p
So, what does this have to do with today’s blog entry?  Once again, I’m a little concerned about the money situation about buying the land and needing to get to October when the car is paid off.  Yesterday I got a refund check from the Title company for enough to get me through the first couple of months…  I’m breathing a little easier now and hoping that I never lose this ‘knack’.  I figure as long as I just go with the flow and take the easy going approach – things will turn out okay… at least it’s been working this long   :p

Quick Update

March 29, 2006 at 9:25 pm (Games)

Just wanted to let you know that I’m still alive!  :p

Played a little bit of Zuma and knocked out two more Gauntlet boards…  I still have a lot more to go though before I’ll get that Sun of Son.  I’m sure that I’ll eventually get through level 12 and complete the Gauntlet… but it’ll take a little bit of time.  That’s not even counting trying to get that Score achievement or the sharp shooter (5 seconds?!).

I also went through one more level in Endless Mode… level 135 is where I am now, only 145 to go!  I’m practically there!    More importantly, I’m just a little over 900 power gems before I get that achievement.  I’ve been concentrating more on Endless, so I don’t try the Action Mode too often – I hate getting discouraged  :p

Anyway, it’s time for this gamer to call it a night and try to get a little bit of sleep.

p.s.  I have worked out a couple of character classes for Oblivion, but I’ll wait til later to actually post what they are. . .     :p

In Trouble

March 29, 2006 at 4:54 pm (General)

Yep. I’m in trouble.  How much trouble are we talking about here?  Girlfriend is not talking to me.  I must have been at fault, or done some horrendous deed in which I’m paying for now.  It’s over a treadmill.

It’s days like this I wonder why I ever thought I needed that significant other in my life and what was truly wrong with being a hermit?  >SIGH<  So she wants a treadmill.  600 bucks plus shipping and  handling.  I really hate to say no, but come on – we just got slammed with a 30 year loan at 1068 dollars a month, sooooo I said can’t we wait awhile.  You would have thought I’d called her some obscene name or something.  Stomping around the house and then pointing the finger at the 360 and said that oh yeah… I can spend money on that, but she can’t get what she wants.  What she doesn’t realize is that I saved money by not spending it on the useless crap I usually do and cut back on those trips to those fast food establishments.  I succeeded in saving this for one simple fact… I did not tell her.  If she knew that I had money saved up it would have been gone before the week was out.  I’m still saving in fact.

You may be thinking… oh, just go ahead and get it.  Ah, small problem there.  I’m tired of getting high priced items only to see them sitting around not being used.  I know she won’t use it.  I hate to say it, but she’s too much of a "get someone else to do it" person.  I always hear, oh I’m too tired… my leg hurts… I don’t feel good… etc. . .
She also wants to go visit her family (I HAVE to go of course) 2,000 miles away every year – sometimes twice, and they come out and visit as well, sometimes for a MONTH. . .  I dread these days because she acts like she has no concept of the value of the dollar.

Marvin from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy had it right………   Life,  don’t talk to me about life.

More Oblivion

March 28, 2006 at 10:39 pm (Games)

I swore I’d only play for a little while, but 3 and a half hours later I’m thinking… ooops.   I’ve been messing around with Soothing Touch to calm people and animals that are attacking and then… run  :p  Hey, don’t blame me!  I’m just a weak spellcaster that’s not meant to fight.  It’s also fun to know that if you pass one of the guards on the road and then get attacked, you can run back to the guard and he’ll take care of it for you as well.   heh heh heh  I’m sure others use this tactic, but I’m just now working with it.
Closed one more gate and ended the night of gaming facing yet another one.   Well, at least I know what I’ll be doing when I go back in.  MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  I also progressed to the next stage of the ‘root’ quest, so I wasn’t just running around for nothing.  Also found a dead body laying in a pool of water with a note… I’m thinking the meeting with the girl didn’t go as planned…..  Other than finding a few more ruins not much more to talk about.  Oh yeah… don’t go jumping when you are going down the side of a mountain… that one took 3/4 of my life  :p  good thing I have some healing powers.

Bigger Project Than I Thought

March 28, 2006 at 4:51 pm (Entertainment)

Wow.   I didn’t realize the scope of this thing when I first thought to pursue it.  I’m talking of course putting together some Character Classes for Oblivion.  Just by Putting all the possibly combinations of the Specialization (3 options), and the 2 Attributes (8 options) I have 84 possibilities.   That’s not even touching the 7 Skills (of which there are 21).  There’s no way we’ll ever get every Combination.  I found a site online somewhere that listed all the pregenerated classes (though I’m not sure about the acrobat).  But I have 20 and the book says there are 21 so I must have missed one.  Oh well, by tomorrow I’ll try to have a few characters I’ve been thinking about:   Hunter, and I’m curious about the Grifter…  I think I know what to do for those two, I just have to commit it to paper.    Others that are percolating in my brain are the Gladiator (for the arena), Brawler, Bouncer, Summoner, Evangelist (heh heh heh  call him Jimmy), Politician, Escapist (can you say Houdini?), and Illusionist.

A Definate Off Day

March 27, 2006 at 10:16 pm (Games)

I thought since I did SO well yesterday on Zuma and made it farther than I ever did before, I would see if I could try level 12 again. . .   ouch…  I didn’t even get the first one done.  In fact, I sucked so bad I tried to do a little gauntlet mode since all my boards are now unlocked.  There are days it just doesn’t pay.  I couldn’t hit the broad side of a 13 marble chain if it was right next to me.  I was throwing marbles two spaces from where I wanted them and just plain got frustrated.

You may be wondering why I was playing Zuma instead of Oblivion.  I didn’t want to have to stop for dinner.  Unfortunately no dinner was coming, so I had to cook something for myself.  By the time that was done I said the heck with it and played a couple levels of Bejewelled.  Nothing spectacular, just some lazy gem switching.

On a side note, I haven’t actually MADE any character classes yet for Oblivion… I’ve just had some ideas – but I want to jot down what the ready made classes are so I don’t duplicate anything.  :p   I’m just too lazy to go through that character generating process again where it lists all the classes.  The more I look at my character, the more I’m sure that I messed him up… the Enchanter should actually be:

Specialization:  Magic
Attributes:  Personality and Speed
Skills:  Illusion, Mercantile, Speechcraft, Athletics, Acrobatics, Mysticism, and Alteration.

Once I actually start the process, I’ll let you in on the classes I come up with!

You’re Doing What?

March 27, 2006 at 4:30 pm (Entertainment)

At least that’s what I imagine people would say if they knew what I did for fun.  :p   I gravitate towards pursuits that would normally bore people to tears.  For example, how many people can say that they’ve spent a whole day at the library copying down ancient alphabets just because they looked neat?  Yeah, that’s how I am.  I have a huge binder filled with strange characters and what they represent.  Some of them even have a few words added.  I always thought it would be neat to create some fonts that used these strange glyphs, but never found out just how to do it on the pc (guess I could try to research).
I haven’t done that particular hobby for several years now.  But now I am being bugged by starting another hobby just as equally time consuming with no apparent benefit to me or others.  Character classes for Oblivion.  Yeah… that’s how I am.  Perhaps I’m just cursed to do goofy things like this all my life – maybe it’s just that I like to exercise my imagination every now and again – or maybe this is all a fevered dream and I’m actually in the hospital somewhere on life support and this is just my brain shutting down on me    :p

Despite the Dreams

March 26, 2006 at 10:21 pm (Games)

Despite the dreams I had, I played more Oblivion today.  Mostly in the morning before I had to go grocery shopping.  I was able to tick off another quest off the list and decided to pursue a few others.

I also took a break from Oblivion in order to pursue a little more of ZU-ma  :p  I was on a roll so I just kept going with it and finally busted past my 8th level block.  Because a lot of people were complaining that 9 was tough, I didn’t expect to make it past that.  Instead I made it through!  Then I passed 10 as well as 11.  12-4 is where my luck ended and I just couldn’t get past that one.  But I’m OH so close.  I’ve always started from the beginning, but part of me just wants to make it past these last levels so I can put it away for awhile and concentrate on other games.   :p

It took its toll on my hands though and they were sore for a long time, but that’s why Oblivion is good.  There’s not a whole lot of action where you have to do this and that and aim and all that.  So it was a good rest.  I managed to finish the Kvatch quest and I’m on my way to take care of some alchemy visit in order to get that one off my list.  Then I can concentrate more on the Mages guild.  I’m not certain, but I think there’s a total of 16 gates.  If that’s the case, then I’ve only closed 3 and I saved for the night just before the 4th gate.  They keep springing up all over  :p  I have just been walking wherever I need to go and I was able to avoid one fight by running back to the guard who then took care of the bandit (Hurrah!).

I’m really liking this game and I’m sure I’m missing all kinds of things, but I will probably play this game a couple more times in order to play the other main classes like Fighter and Thief. . .  Although there’s enough room to play as a Cleric. . . .  hmmmmmmmm…..

Dreams of a Deranged Imagination

March 26, 2006 at 1:45 pm (General)

First of all, I’ll say it up front:  I’ve been playing too much on the 360.   No, really.  I know that it sounds like it’s an impossibility but if you had the dream I had last night, you’d probably be saying the same thing.  Dreams and I have this common theme – If I do too much of something my dreams tend to mess with my mind, much the same way the stomach does with too much pizza just before bed.  Even without this effect, I’ve been known to have dreams that wake me up in the middle of the night looking for a weapon of some kind so I can go through the house and make sure no one is there (yeah – forget trying to sleep after THAT one).  Or the time I went on a week long Quantum Leap marathon (starting at #1 and watching non-stop from 7 am to 10pm over the weekend) which provided quite the dreams of me leaping around in time.  But I’m starting to ramble on, let me go back to the dream I had last night.

In the game of Oblivion, I have found the 4 books and easily deciphered the cryptic message – plus I know the first key.  In my dream, not only did I find these books, I found 3 separate editions of them (nice illustrated covers and everything by the way).  Yeah, you can tell I’ve been playing a lot of Oblivion with how this one is started.  The curious thing about these books though is they are on metal shelving (the kind you put together with nuts and bolts).  Lo and behold, I find a secret little room that has more books. . . the big thing is that they were dated AFTER the original killer had been appprehended.  Jinkies!  Okay, now I have two other people with me for whatever reason dreams do this to  you.  And they start looking at the other books. . . and then the sound.  OMG  the killer is here!  I back out of the room realizing that I don’t have a weapon, but lucky for me there are some shovels against the wall… some too big, I’d never be able to use that one properly, but a smaller shovel that looks like it’ll handle just fine!  I pick it up and step back in to meet the killer.   Yeah.. stop laughing, it’s a dream after all.
I start swinging that shovel at the Condemned-esque killer and it really doesn’t look like I’m doing much to him.  Then he starts making these strange gestures and. . . . disappears?!  Okay, where did he go?  Luckily there’s a curtain that one of my cohorts grabs and throws it around, revealing where the killer is and we go after him with gusto.

These are the dreams I’m blessed with after I’ve been intent at something for too long.  At least I know what games have caused it… I’m just glad I hadn’t been playing Full Auto or PGR3 a lot as well. . . who knows what the dream would have been like then. . .
