Decision Made

January 31, 2011 at 9:47 pm (General)

All this thinking about which game to play was getting too complicated for me so I just grabbed a game and started playing it.  It just so happened to be ArcaniA:  Gothic 4 that I finally rested upon.

Starting the game, I realized one thing right off the bat…  This game has some problems with it.  Even after installing the game to the hard drive, the frame rate is suffering.  pieces of scenery go missing for a bit and then pop back into existence.  In fact, I could compare the look with Two Worlds (the first one).  The second thing I’ve noticed is that the dialog is not the best.  Even being better than Two Worlds, it still is awful.  At least I’ve got the basics of the fighting.

I’m sure this game will grow on me as I play through it like the aforementioned Two Worlds did.  However, I figure I’ll still try for the couple of achievements left in Dark Messiah:  Might and Magic, which despite some bad reviews does have its own little charm.

Couple of New Games

January 26, 2011 at 9:57 pm (Games)

I have been attacking some of the new arcade games I’ve purchased (DeathSpank) and I seem to be getting through them quickly.  Perhaps too quickly.  So, I’m in the mood to start something that will keep me busy for awhile.

My first thought is RPG which is one of my favorite genres.  I certainly have enough of them that need attention.  But there’s this little voice that’s crying out that I need to venture into some horror.  I also happen to have a few of those.

There are a couple games I’ve started but never finished like Lost Odyssey and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.  The time it takes to get to save points on Lost Odyssey is what’s holding me back on that one.  But I have Fallout New Vegas, Fable III, ArcaniA, among others that I want to start as well.  That’s not counting the suspense/horror/thriller games like Alan Wake, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill, and Deadly Premonition.  Of course, The Darkness, Jericho, and Condemned 2 are all started but never finished.

I should maybe just quit thinking about it and throw one on and start playing.  I mean, there are so many more coming out soon like Two Worlds II which I’ll probably snatch up this weekend.

Just Gonna Lay Here

January 18, 2011 at 4:49 pm (Health and wellness)

Don’t mind me, I’m just gonna lay here for a little bit.  I’d get up, but I just don’t have the energy at the moment.  I guess the reason for this is just bad luck or bad timing or both.

Two days after the loss of our dog, the cat decided to call it quits as well.  So our pets are down to two dachsaunds and a tabby cat.

There is another thing going on, but I don’t have the energy to deal with that yet.  Which is the reason I decided to lay here a little longer.

Numbing the Pain

January 14, 2011 at 8:07 pm (Games, Health and wellness)

Yesterday found me doing the one thing I’ve been trying to avoid.  At 1:30 in the afternoon I had to take Fluffy to the vet and stop his suffering.  Like in the previous post – the results were in that his kidneys were in failure and he wasn’t eating.  Even knowing that this was the right thing to do, it didn’t make it any easier.

So, like a lot of people who are dealing with this sort of stress, I decided to throw some money at some arcade games/games for windows/dlc.  In an effort to help take my mind off things I finally decided to get Costume Quest to try it out.  I also got Where’s Waldo? and DLC for Left 4 Dead 2 (both of them) and the DLC for Costume Quest.

True, these games aren’t going to make it all better…  but for a few minutes I can temporarily forget (push to the background anyway) the awful Thursday.

Rough Times

January 11, 2011 at 10:40 pm (Health and wellness)

For now things are pretty hectic and not in a good way.  Any animal lovers out there can understand the heartbreak of having to make that decision and right now it’s weighing heavy.  The extra visit to the vet for tests in order to see what’s going on has come back and things are looking bad for our 15 year old pomeranian/pekinese mix.

You would think that on these bleak days, it should be the only thing on one’s plate.  However, the phrase “when it rains, it pours” comes right into play as I drove my wife to the ER last night for a 5 hour ordeal, getting back home at 3 a.m.  Dealing with an attempt to keep the wife comfortable and a doctor visit coming up, the aformentioned decision has to take a back seat for the next day or two.

With hopes that the condition with the wife isn’t too serious and that it’s a simple infection that can be treated with a little TLC (and antibiotics), we have had good day for our dog who for the first time in a week had more of an appetite.  It makes it easier to put off that dreaded moment – but not the deep feelings of imminent loss that constrict the very soul.

The loss of sleep is definately having an effect, but I will keep on going on doing what needs to be done until I can finally say things are back to normal and can lay down, catch up on my rest and get myself back to center.

Halo Skillz!

January 4, 2011 at 6:26 pm (Games)

My nephew is now gone back home (at least on the way back) and he showed me just how much skill I have in Halo:  Reach.

Started the co-op campaign (I don’t enjoy the you vs. me stuff at all) and began through to the end.  Then after we were done he wanted more and we started on Heroic.  To put everything in perspective, I had already completed the campaign once and was working my way through again before we started our campaign.  Not only did he catch up to my rank, but he surpassed it.

Running around and just killing everything in sight while I was still trying to tie my shoes.  Yeah, I know where my Halo skillz are…  just a level up from the potted plants.

So it’s back to my RPGs and some Kinect games for me while I go ahead and just slink away from the Halo series…. unless I decide to finish up the Heroic levels in Reach.
